Google Photos has brought a new dimension to appreciate valued memories since it first exploded into the scene in 2015. Right since then, photo sharing and cloud services have been popular for free storage without limits. Users have enjoyed this feature for years, saving the most important moments with full thoughts – no need to worry about storage space running on their devices.

Google’s trusted service provides limitless cloud storage for photos and videos up to 16MP size and 1080p resolution. Whatever uploaded outside this limit is only enhanced to the parameters mentioned – called high-quality storage. Basically, users don’t need to do anything outside, press the “Back up Now” button or store automatic backup for safe backup of all photos and videos.

Starting June 1, 2021, Google Photos will count all the images and videos uploaded with free 15GB storage with your Google account. Go past the threshold and you have to get a Google One subscription to continue to enjoy the service.

The foundation for this step was put back on November 2020 when Google’s photo led David Leib tweeted reasons for this strategic step. According to him, providing a completely free backup is the cost of the company. Users will also get new features starting June 1 which will be more than a photo and video management tool. AI tools will analyze the files that you save and suggest if you want to get rid of blurry photos or video clips that are too large to mounted on the 15GB free limit.

Pixel devices become part of the Google ecosystem has the privilege of enjoying further benefits. Yes, pixel owners don’t need to worry, because they will get free limit storage for high quality upload. If the user chooses to upload the original quality of photos and videos, but it will be calculated towards the storage of Google Accounts. But yes, there is nothing for 16MP criteria and 1080p high quality.

For Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners, they can enjoy unlimited photo and video uploads on the original quality settings until the end of 2021. It is beyond the time frame every content will be increased to high-quality cloud resolution. Users who have Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL devices will enjoy this benefit until January 31, 2022. After that the same methodology will follow for any new photos or videos – eg. They will be upgraded to high quality settings

More new devices in the lineup include Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4A and Pixel 5 will not get free uploads without limits in the original quality settings. They have to live with high-quality storage options without free limits. Also, Google will not provide the luxury of free photo and video storage for pixel devices released in the future.
