It’s been years since IFixit has a new IMAC to tear but now they have attacked the 24-inch model that Apple has just released. When you compare it with the 2014 IMAC 5K design thing that jumps out is how a little space is taken by a computer section. Apple M1 chip, related hardware, RAM and everything else is filled with a narrow logic board that is right on the new desktop chin.
X-ray shots revealed that while hiding antennas in the Apple logo, they were not shaped like Apple this time. It seems like there is no hidden RAM or the SSD expansion slot hiding there, even though we don’t expect to be able to improve hardware on this machine. Tearardown Ifixit is still ongoing, so look now and then check back to find out what the metal shield is, or how the touchid works in a wireless keyboard accessory.
