The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has announced that it is in accordance with the implementation of SB 1014 in 2018, a rules have been adopted that will require a Ridesharing company to begin electrification of their California fleet starting in 2023. Miles net standards implemented by SB 1014 will need a Ridesharing company, such as Uber and Lyft, which operates in California to meet the target of greenhouse gases and annual electrification. Carb said that the rules would align the ridesharing company with other company fleet requirements. By 2030, regulations require that the Rideshare company reaches zero greenhouse gas emissions and ensures 90 percent of their vehicles are fully electrical.
Carb Liane M. Randolph said this step was a piece of California comprehensive program that had developed to protect public health from dangerous emissions. Randolph also said that the transportation sector was responsible for almost half of greenhouse gas emissions in California, and the majority came from a light vehicle.
The target of greenhouse gases will be filled with several ways, including increasing electric miles driven by the Ridesharing company outside the target of 90 percent electricity miles, reducing Deadhead Miles, or increasing the number of passengers per trip. Ridesharing companies will get optional greenhouse gas loans by investing in sidewalk infrastructure and bicycle lines that support active transportation and connecting transit through the integrated travel booking application.
Carb said that new regulations that harmonize with the commitment of the main Ridesharing companies have been carried out for transition to emissions-zero vehicles in 2030. This step is also parallel to the state and federal incentive programs that support the transition to zero vehicles to emissions.
