Smartphone cameras once again grow with almost silly speeds once again and the size also grows. Even though there is a large market for smartphones with very good cameras, not everyone might be so interested in them, especially if they pay expensive branding in the process. Consumers don’t really have many choices in the camera what they get because how cellphones are made but Xiaomi once again looks at modular phones to potentially offer more options, think this really comes true.
Modular telephone ideas are almost not new and some companies have tried to make these ideas come true. The closest thing we get is an effort to fail LG G5 in some modular parts but fairphone also encourages modularity for sustainability. It seems that Xiaomi also has other modular ideas, which rotates around a smartphone camera.
According to the patent seen by Letsgodigital, Xiaomi thought of a system where only certain parts of the cellphone were removed. While the basic components of the cellphone, including batteries, screens, and logic board, remain intact, the camera module and bottom port can be exchanged. It may be rather difficult to visualize what Xiaomi means but, fortunately, sharing a few rendering letsgodigital like what looks like that modular telephone.
Based on the submission of his own Xiaomi patent, a modular phone can switch between modules with a square camera lump and one with a camera in one column. Rendering, but also imagines modules with a second screen on the back, suitable for using a camera for selfies.
The patent also shows the bottom of the cellphone slid out even though it doesn’t show what can be done with it. The edge of the cellphone can also be a little problematic because of how the speaker and charging port are there. Of course, this is only a patent and may even be a real product, especially considering how modular cellphones are not sold well even though it is popular ideas.
