The government plans to produce a policy that will facilitate the ecosystem for the industry to create a customary operating system as an alternative to Google Android and Apple iOS, Minister of Union for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Monday.

At present, cellphones are dominated by two operating systems – Google Android and Apple iOS that encourage hardware ecosystems too, ministers told PTI in an interview.

“There is no third. Therefore, with many ways there is extraordinary interest in improvement and in the Indian government even creating a new handset operating system. We talk to people. We are looking at the policy for it,” Chandrasekhar said.

He said that the government was looking for capabilities in the start-up and academic ecosystem for the development of the custom operating system (OS).

The operating system is the main software of each computer and mobile devices that weave the entire hardware system and software for effective OS functions.

“If there are some real abilities, we will be very interested in developing the area because it will make alternatives to iOS and Android which then the Indian brand can grow,” Chandrasekhar said.

The minister said that most policy policies and tools were being considered in the context of the objectives and ambitions of Reiamgining. “It is important to have a clear goal. After we have a clear goal and what we must achieve, all policies and actions will be consistent with it,” Chandrasekhar said.

He and the Minister of Communication and Ashwani Vaishnaw released the volume of both vision documents about electronic manufacturing prepared by the ICEA body industry whose members included Apple, Lava, Foxconn, Dixon etc.

Documents detail the road map to reach $ 300 billion (approximately RS. 22,55,265 crore) electronic manufacturing in the country in 2026 from the current level of $ 75 billion (approximately rs. 5.63,820 crore).

“This report is very appropriate to talk about where USD 300 billion (approximately RS. 22,55,265 Crore) will come, what the industry must do and what the government needs to be done. This is an example of how the industry and the government must set a target for Country. Manufacturing will be USD 300 billion and exports worth $ 120 billion (approximately RS. 9.02,195 crore) will occur. This is the government of India’s goal now, “Chandrasekhar said.

At present, Indian electronic exports are around $ 15 billion (approximately Rs. 1,12,775 crore).

The minister said it was the desire of the Prime Minister and the purpose of the Electronic Ministry and IT (MEIT) to create domestic champions in each of the leading product categories.

He said that the prime minister has cleared the financial market and India has become one of the biggest recipients of direct foreign investment and equity.

“The number of foreign banks has increased in India. For the first time, the stock market and public market are financing and investing in start-ups and technology companies. Such transformations have occurred. Today is lava, dixon, or boat or whatever companies The company has the ability to increase capital, the equity they do not have six years ago, “said Minister.

He said that production related incentives will continue to encourage various manufacturing segments and it will depend on the definition of technology products and which ministries should regulate it.
