Snapchat has just launched several large improvements to the camera in the application. The company shows off the features of the new interactive augmented reality, announces partnerships with YouTube and other companies and previews the new version of “inclusive” from camera technology.
Starting later this year, Snapchat users will have the ability to share clips from YouTube and YouTube music directly to Snapchat. This application supports similar integration with SoundCloud and Twitter, but adding YouTube support must be a gift for this service. Snap also announces new integration with a Bumble, which will allow users to send selfies with snapchat lenses in dating applications.
On the side of augmented reality, Snap offers seeing a new interactive lens. Thanks to the new type of “connected” lens, users will be able to collaborate with each other in AR even if they are in a separate location. Snap cooperates with Lego in the first version of the lens like that, but will open technology through his studio Lens.
Other companies also find interesting ways to utilize the latest Snapchat technology. Artiphon musical instrument maker is carrying a “instrument” augmented reality to the Snapchat lens. With a lens, users can “play” different instruments by interacting with animation.
Snap also spilled new light on efforts recently announced to make the camera more inclusive. Snap lenses don’t always work consistently for people with darker skin tones, long problems that have led some users to say Snapchat and other applications “Whitewash” their faces.
According to Snap, this is because camera technology has long been optimized for lighter skin. Now, the company is looking to remodel how the camera works so it works the same for people with all skin tones. It also plans to make a more inclusive camera version available to others through its camera kit platform.
