Starting a business is a dream for many and something that you have to work incredibly hard to make work. There is an incredible amount that you have to consider before becoming a business owner and often it is easy to make a crucial step on your path to success. This article aims to help you ensure that every aspect of your potential business has been properly considered before you begin down the entrepreneurial path to company ownership.
What Is Your Product/Service?
The single most important aspect of any business, without a product or a service in mind for you to build your business around your potential business will be dead in the water. No matter how well you set up the rest of your business, you cannot hope to exist without a product or a service to sell, which means the first thing you need to do is sit down and decide on a product.
What Is Your Niche?
Once you have your product (or service) in mind, the next most impactful aspect of your business building strategy is going to be your niche.
Who is going to buy your product?
Why are they going to buy it?
How often are they going to buy it?
These three questions must form the bedrock of your business plan and you absolutely have to be able to answer each of these questions before you even think about registering as a business.
What Do You Need to Start Up?
Now that you know what you are selling, and to whom you are selling it, you are going to need to consider exactly what you are going to need to bring your company into the world.
A Building? You are going to have to conduct your business somewhere and knowing exactly where you are going to do business and how much space you need is an important consideration.
Employees? Workers are the lifeblood of any industry, and you are going to need to know exactly how many people you’ll need to make your business work. Are you going to run the business alone? If you are going to hire employees, then how much are you going to pay them? What kind of employee benefits do you plan to offer?
A Customer Base? Your customers are how the company makes money and without them you wouldn’t be able to operate. Fortunately, having considered your niche, you should know exactly who you’re marketing to. However, there are some additional questions you should consider. How many customers do you need for your business to turn a profit? How are you going to build a customer base? Will repeat customers be feasible for your business strategy?
Startup Funds? Finally, you should be considering how expensive this is going to be, both initially and in the long term. How much are you going to need to get your business off the ground and how long will it take for your revenue to outweigh your costs? How much of your profits are you going to funnel back into your business? These are all important questions.
