We did not hear much about Sharp smartphones today, mostly because they were only available in Japan and some certain regions. However, the company has just launched a new model, Aquos R6, which is loaded with interesting technology, because Engadget Japan has reported. It includes Leica branded cameras with a very large sensor that raises several questions about Leica’s relationship with Huawei.
Sharp collaborated with Leica to make a 20 megapixel camera with a 1-inch sensor, one of the most available on any smartphone. It works with Leica on the entire camera system, including sensors (possibly built by Sony), 19mm width lens F / 1.9 (equivalent to 35mm), and image quality features. The lens design of 7 elements even produces a “Summicron” branding of Leica is proud, which is said to allow you to shoot with a little distortion. However, Aquos R6 only has one rear camera, so zooming (from width to telephoto) is done digitally, not optically.
Sharp collaboration with Leica was rather interesting, because rumors increased yesterday that Leica ended her relationship with Huawei, although the two previous companies denied this. However, considering the new sharp collaboration, Leica was no longer exclusive to Huawei again, at least. Whether it will also work with other camera companies such as Xiaomi, as reported, still have to be seen.
Aquos R6 has a screen to match the camera too. 6.6 inch screen, 2,730 x 1,260 HDR issued up to 2,000 nits brightness – the highest available on smartphones, sharp claims. To hit that number, Sharp said he developed the OLED screen using his Igzo technology, although it was not clear exactly how it worked. To avoid draining the fast battery from a bright look, Sharp should develop a system to reduce the speed of refresh to 1Hz when the silent image is displayed.
Other good features for security conscious people are double-fingerprint systems. Aquos R6 seems to be one of the first smartphones using the Fingerprint 3D Sonic Max Qualcomm authentication system, first announced in 2019. A much larger area makes fingerprint identification easier, while also allows users to enter with two fingerprints simultaneously for additional security.
Other specifications include the Snapdragon 888 process, 12GB RAM, 128 GB of extended storage and a 5,000 mAh battery to support large screens and batteries. There is no word on price or availability, but you might not be able to get it in the US.
