The new IMAC generation this year might be the best to remember because it looks like a giant pro iPad. Of course, there are changes that are not visible with the naked eye and we not only talk about the new Apple M1 chip that runs the entire event today. It does include many internal changes because of new computing architecture but there are even more found inside. Fortunately, experts at iFixit have started the journey literally revealing the secrets of Apple M1 IMAC 24 inches, now in purple!
Even though it looks like a glorified iPad Pro, the carts actually started quite well. That said, ifiksit did experience some plastic screw posts but no one guarantees too subtle handling. Also the good news is that the front is just a piece of glass and does not have a metal chin to block access to the internal components, making it easier to dismantle.
However, after the back cover was removed, the surprise began. While the Apple logo is still hiding the RF antenna below it, it is now covered by a rectangular metal plate inside than something shaped like an Apple logo. There are also two large metal plates on both sides of the iMac and ifixit confused on what it is. You’re both mysterious are two circles such as CMOS batteries in the middle that still have no purpose that can be seen.
Unlike the previous IMAC model, most of the components are concentrated on the upper and lower edges of the IMAC M1. And thanks to the new M1 chip, the logic board is even smaller than before, as large as M1 MacBook Air, according to IFIXIT. One difference is that there are fans who really do active cooling to maximize their performance.
Ifixit has not been completed with a wide range but there is one thing that is certain. With Apple M1, CPU, GPU, memory, and storage are all soldered on the logic board. This makes an increase or replace these components by a third-party technician which is quite impossible, which might be the way Apple consists it.
