By Abhik Sengupta: Apple’s erstwhile flagships, iPhone 13 and iPhone 12, are getting a big discount on Flipkart and the official Apple India stores during the festive season. While the newest iPhone 14 is already available in the market, many customers would be tempted to go for the older iPhones since changes in terms of design and features are not substantial. Therefore, if you’re planning to get a new iPhone, and the iPhone 13 or iPhone 12 are on your list, here is what you need to remember. Before we get to which phone performs better, let’s take a look at the current pricing.
On the Apple India website, the iPhone 13 is retailing at MRP. The base 128GB costs Rs 69,900, and the same storage option of the iPhone 12 is available for Rs 64,900. Apple is offering an instant discount offer worth Rs 7,000 with HDFC and American Express credit cards. That means customers can buy the phones effectively for Rs 62,900 and Rs 57,900, respectively.
The same storage variants are getting a big discount on Flipkart amid its Big Diwali Sale. Some colour options of iPhone 13 are available for Rs 59,990 plus bank offers to sweeten the deal. The iPhone 12, on the other hand, is retailing for Rs 58,990. If you want a more affordable version of the iPhone 12, its 64GB option is available for Rs 53,990, though we recommend you get the 128GB model since the former’s storage won’t suffice.
So far, Amazon is offering the best deal on iPhone 12, and the smartphone’s 128GB option is retailing at Rs 51,990 sans bank deals. If you have an ICICI Bank credit card, the price effectively drops to Rs 50,740. The iPhone 13 128GB option is not available on Amazon.
iPhone 13 vs iPhone 12: Which one should buy?
Clearly, the iPhone 12 is cheaper, but the iPhone 13 remains the latest (relatively) with more advanced features. Therefore, the pertinent question remains: which one should you considerThe obvious answer would be – iPhone 13 if you have the budget. That’s simply because the smartphone comes with a more powerful A15 processor, a better camera system, a bigger battery, and new video features. Although the specifications-wise comparison may seem insignificant, real-life use cases are quite evidently different, as you’ll find in our review here (iPhone 12, iPhone 13).
For instance, both iPhone 13 and 12 include two 12-megapixel cameras on the back, though the iPhone 13 offers a cinematic mode that offers a blurry effect in videos. This feature is unavailable on the iPhone 12. Most importantly, the iPhone 13 will get an extra year of software updates.
This does not mean that the iPhone 12 is bad by any metric. It also supports 5G and comes with the same 6.1-inch display with ceramic shield protection. The smartphone would make more sense if you’re planning to get an iPhone for elderly users, since their demands are generally more modest than that of young users. Additionally, if you’re planning to get a secondary iPhone to create content, the iPhone 12 won’t disappoint.
