Now Google launches the development of its newest software on I / O 2021, including Android 12, we waited for Apple to do the same. We are only a few weeks away from the main keynote WWDC 2021, where Apple will reveal new software innovation designed for its products. Considering the iPhone is the most popular Apple product, iOS 15 is the most awaited announcement of the event – iPados 15 will be an upgrade that is equally interesting this year considering what apples do with iPad Pro.
While most of the Android 12 features were significant and the design changes were leaked before the I / O press event, iOS 15 was more mysterious. We saw several leaks earlier this year which included some expected general software improvements from iOS 15. We are looking at increased notifications, new key screen design for iPhone, new privacy features, and a new home screen for iPad. Unlike the Android leak, we also have no visual for iOS 15. But after seeing Google’s announcement this week, I look forward to the iOS 15 “copy” one of the latest features that Google added to the photo.
Google announces the function of the newly locked folder for Google photos that do exactly what it is recommended. This allows users to place photos in the folder that they don’t want to have access to other people using their devices, applications that get access to photos or appear in photo feeds.
As shown in the picture above, the locked folder will be protected by a password or PIN and support biometric authentication. That means fingerprint readers on Android, even though Face Unlock Tech can also function if available.
This is the type of feature that has been waiting for by iPhone and iPad users for years to arrive at iOS. Apple added a “hidden” folder to the photo application, but anyone who has access to a phone or tablet will be able to see the contents of the folder as long as they know it’s there. Protecting folders with a PIN or Face ID may be the next step.
Locking photos with a password may be needed for sensitive documents that might want to carry. That is the type of personal data that requires protection outside the cellphone screen key. Third-party applications can lock photos with passwords, but add functionality to the default photo application will be an additional welcome for the iPhone and iPad.
Google hasn’t explained the locked folder in detail during the keynote, but the Android Police has a full slum feature.
Locked folders are in the utility section in the bottom tab of the library. When choosing to save photos in the protected folder, they will be removed from the cloud storage completely. That means the locked folder does not apply to the cloud, and Google will not synchronize photos between local locked folders and the locked cloud folder. The protected image will only live on the phone where the locked folder is activated, it’s part of the security feature. The disadvantage is that the photos may be lost forever if the cellphone is lost, stolen, or damaged. Repair for it is actually relatively simple; One can save images on other devices, including a computer or storage drive.
The Android Police explains that the locked folder will not let you edit photos, and you have to move it from the folder to do it. Also, searching for images or making an album is not supported, so you have to scroll the photo manually to find the desired document.
The locked folder will be available on the pixel phone at first and roll it out to another Android later. With iOS 15, Apple can make this kind of functionality available for all iPhone and iPad.
WWDC 2021 starts on June 7, with mainnote streaming online at Apple and YouTube program hubs.
