Apple Music Lossless Streaming may not be an option for your airpod, but they will be for your smart speakers. 9TO5Mac reports that Apple has promised lossless support for Homepod and Mini HomePod through “future software updates.” The company does not say when this upgrade will arrive, or whether you will get features like Dolby Atmos through the original homepod (which supports the atmos for video).
The same support document mentions Homepod support also notes that you can use max airpods to listen to lossless audio through a lightning adapter to 3.5mm, although analog-to-digital conversions in cables means you will still lose some audio loyalty. The Lightning Adapter to 3.5mm for the iPhone will allow lossless playback via DAC 24-bit / 48KHz.
Apple can offer lossless through Homepod thanks to Extra WiFi bandwidth. Other airpods and Bluetooth headphones do not have capacity, according to Apple.
We will not expect night differences and days in sound quality through homepods, especially Mini homepods – there are only so many smart currents speakers in terms of replicating song details, even if you set a stereo pair. If nothing else, lossless support will ensure that any limitations of audio quality are caused by hardware, not source material.
