Portable power station, the hulking version of the power bank for the smartphone that you carry in your bag, now comes in all forms, size, and capacity. Almost all of them offer the same trifekta from portability, strength and security even though they mostly vary in how they balance the first two. Too small and you won’t be able to get a lot of it. However, add too much, and it defeats the goal to be portable, even if you have a wheel. Offering a powerful battery that won’t pull your arms when you take it is what makes a portable power plant Bluetti EB70 try to offer and we take it for a good round to see if it’s indeed a Goldilocks of its kind.
Almost all portable power stations, at least designed for truly taken-carry, start with a rectangular boxy shape. From there, the manufacturer added all the decorations they need to stand out from the crowd. They often involve a curved body or an unusual handle. However, Bluetti EB70, sticks with the basics for creating the most efficient design of space.
Bluetti EB70 is quite a large amount of large polycarbonate plastic box which only curves minimally in the corner and edge. The handle-plastic is folded flat into the body when it is not used. Except for the cover of car charging, no one is too extruding from all sides of the power plant. What this means in practice is that it can be shamed to strict places without wasted space on angles and strange curves.
Although plastic material used throughout the EB70 Bluetti chassis, the power plant feels sturdy and built well. Of course, it’s also on the heavy side at 21.3 lbs, about 9.7 kilograms, which is not what you expect from a small box like that. Then again, if you know what packaging inside, you won’t be surprised.
Bluetti EB70 comes in a three-color variant but, at the time of this writing, only a vibrant gray and red space is available. Both of them look premium but the vibrant red we get for this review must have been prominent more, especially in an emergency. Speaking of emergencies, it is also equipped with a very bright LED torch which is fortunately located in front. No need to point to light awkwardly like a giant and heavy flashlight.
Bluetti EB70 boasts a 716WH or 700W battery that easily defeats a more portable power station type. The part of the weight comes from the use of lifepo4 or lithium-ion phosphate technology, the same type used in electric vehicles.
While it clearly looks like a large amount that can power the many electronic devices and equipment, actually also placing limits on what you can install into it. Microwave, for example, can work but only if you meet the maximum wattage. Whatever is around 800W or higher will force the safety system to kick and turn off power plants for security reasons.
Like most portable power stations today, EB70 offers three charging methods. The most environmentally friendly is, of course, through the 200W Bluetti Solar Panel itself which meets the minimum for quickly charging power generation. You can also charge from a lighter car port but most people might charge them through the upcoming 200W Gigantic Power Brick. Although this is the easiest and fastest charging method, charging full power in less than 4 hours, it is also the most noisy.
Unlike most portable power stations that we met, Bata Power Bluetti EB70 had its own fan and it was hard enough. Strangely, fans turned on even if it did not charge EB70, as long as the charger itself was connected. In other words, you must unplug the charger when it is not used and will remind you of that fact. in the most annoying way.
