While most of the world smartphones seem to have exceeded the phase of popups and flip cameras, Asus has gone old school this year. Indeed, it was only one of two telephone makers who adopted a flip camera design (Samsung was the other with the Galaxy A80) but it might be the only one left to make the uncurrent design. Of course, such irregularities from the usual build smartphone do have consequences when distinguishing them as a Teardown video from Asus Zenfone 8 flip clearly showing.

Indeed, the biggest part and may be the most sophisticated of the Flip Zenfone 8 is the reverse camera module. Fortunately, the module is actually, good, modular and can be easily replaced by yourself. The catch is that the module apparently also accommodates the earpiece speakers in it so there may be some side effects if the part is damaged.

Entering the phone from the start is not risky, fortunately. Of course, the glass back can break but most of the technicians are familiar with the process. No trap hidden in it, only a lot and lots of screws and cables to delete and disconnect. It can indeed be complicated but they are more boring than others.

Inside, Flip ZenFone 8 also doesn’t have many secrets. The battery is quite conventional and no complicated cooling system. One rather funny detail is that the phone has many indicators of water damage which, considering it has a moving part, maybe Asus just becomes very paranoid.

All in all, PBK reviews find ASUS ZENFONE 8 flip into a mobile that is very improved. The process can take time because the number of screws is involved but is made for it with a very modular part. Along with the “normal” Zenfone 8 Twin, it can be one of the wonders of the simple smartphone market this year.
